Winners Of Hertz Furniture's Applauding Teachers Contest Announced

Mahwah, NJ (August 25, 2011) - This week, Hertz Furniture announced the winners of its Applauding Teachers Across America contest. Congratulations are in order for Grand Prize winner Jennifer Carpenter, a 12-year veteran of Oklahoma's Putnam City Schools district.

Leading school furniture supplier Hertz Furniture decided to award the Grand Prize to Mrs. Carpenter because of her passion for equipping her special needs students with the skills necessary for becoming productive members of society. Rather than focusing on her students' disabilities, Carpenter concentrates on what they can do, and encourages their participation in the Special Olympics.

Ralph Down Elementary School parent Donna Martin nominated Mrs. Carpenter for the Hertz Furniture contest. "While everyone else overlooked what she could do, Jennifer made sure my daughter Jailyn always tried her best," Martin wrote in her nomination letter.  "I am writing this in the hope that someone will notice the teachers out there like Jennifer who deserve to be recognized for their tireless and heartfelt. Without her, Jailyn would have a harder time facing day-to-day challenges. Jennifer instills confidence and motivation in every one of her students."

Hertz Furniture (http://www.hertzfurniture.com)  is pleased to award Carpenter with a complete office furniture set, which includes a double-pedestal office desk with matching bookcase and office chair (http://www.hertzfurniture.com/Computer-Chairs--Multi-Func...).  " Jennifer Carpenter and teachers like her deserve to be recognized as well as appreciated," says the company's president Saul Wagner.  "Here at Hertz, we strive to assist teachers in the education of America's children by providing them with the very best in school furniture."

In addition to the Grand Prize, there are also two First Place winners of the Applauding Teachers Contest. Heather Dobson Brumback of Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Kentucky and Pam DeBerardinis of St. Paul's Lutheran School in Alabama each won an executive office chair.  Ms. Brumback, a special education teacher, Big Sister and Special Olympics coach, has learned from her students to never take anything for granted. "Mrs. D." (DeBerardinis), has a perpetual smile on her face even though she's had to teach her class in the corner of the lunchroom ever since a tornado destroyed her classroom in April. Described as "more than priceless," Mrs. D. will certainly put her office chair to good use once her classroom is rebuilt, since all of her school furniture was destroyed in the tornado.
